In an interview with PC Play, Crytek's president Cevat Yerli pointed out that what seems to be the old favourite scapegoat for lagging PC game sales, piracy! When questioned about the current state of the PC industry and how it impacted upon Crysis' sales, Cevat replied,
...We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we wont have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.
You're right Cevat, we can only attribute "poor" sales of Crysis due to piracy. It couldn't possibly be that the majority of PC owners don't own a magical rig that can run the game fluidly at the higher settings. It couldn't be that multiplayer was a forgettable experience or that half the things promised by you were somehow left out of the game at launch. There is no way that the game was poorly optimized for DX10 and DX9. It must only be the piracy.
