Microsoft Statement on HD-DVD Situation

Microsoft Statement on HD-DVD Situation

Mon, 02/18/2008 - 21:44 — Feature by Jonathan

With recent rumours of Toshiba withdrawing their HD-DVD format, effectively ending the ongoing format war between HD-DVD and Blu-ray, Microsoft believes that this move will not impact the sales of their Xbox 360.

Microsoft's official statement,

"We do not believe the recent reports about HD DVD will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace. As we've long stated, we believe it is games that sell consoles and Xbox 360 continues to have the largest next-gen games library with the most exclusives and best selling games in the industry. We will wait until we hear from Toshiba before announcing any specific plans around the Xbox 360 HD DVD player. HD DVD is one of the several ways we offer a high definition experience to consumers and we will continue to give consumers the choice to enjoy digital distribution of high definition movies and TV shows directly to their living room along with playback of the DVD movies they already own."

Another blow after Wii sales crossing the Xbox sales mark. Microsoft needs something new very soon to pick up the market. Either drop the price further or come up Xbox Super Elite ;0)

Now we know why they had the HD player as an eternal element, they knew that it might ened to be upgraded/replaced for a BluRay...

I have an elite and I can't imagine ever wanting to switched to a console with a third of the power (Wii) because of a cool controller (but hopefully microsoft will come out with its own version of the wiimote soon) or an overpriced/overhyped black grill (the ps3). Let's face it, ths ps3 has no killer aps for yet, and none of its promises of amazing processing power or graphics have come true...

It's official now that HD-DVD is being dropped by Toshiba, a surprise win for Blu-Ray (Sony). Interesting to see how will they compete with DVD's now.

I don't think we should under estimate the ability of Microsoft to come out of this looking smarter than they do right now...given time to reflect of course.

50$ Price drop on Xbox

arch_king — Fri, 02/22/2008 - 13:40

Here we go response to HD-DVD loss brought 50$ drop in price to attract new gamers, but is it sufficient when each game costs around $60 don't know but price cut is always welcome by gamers.

Microsoft has missed the boat and is fooling themselves and anyone who invests in the XBox 360. PC gaming all the way!
