In anticipation for Battlefield: Bad Company, I've been trying to gather as much information as I can on the game. Unfortunately some information I found concerning Bad Company's DLC was rather disturbing. EA, in their infinite wisdom, is going to charge money for extra weapons in a First-Person Shooter. Don't believe me? Here's EA's official statement:
“…Battlefield: Bad Company features numerous weapons in the core game. In addition to the core set of weapons, Battlefield: Bad Company will release five unique weapons free of charge through five different promotional programs prior to launch. EA will again make these weapons available to players free of charge after launch, in case anyone missed the pre-launch promotions.
At launch, EA will release a Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company which will feature an additional five new weapons. For players who do not purchase the Gold Edition of the game, they can still buy the five weapons at a small individualized price per item. All weapons are balanced for gameplay. More weapons offer players more choices but do not create an advantage/disadvantage for players who do not opt to buy new items.
Currently, the menu in the Battlefield: Bad Company beta notes all ten weapons; the five available free of charge pre-launch as well as the additional five available in the Gold Edition.
We will have more details on the pre-launch campaign and Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company in the next few weeks.”
Now while I do think Bad Company looks like an excellent game, I can't support a game with such a blatant DLC rip-off scheme. I urge you to think twice before purchasing this game until EA changes its questionable practices in regard to DLC.

MJB — Mon, 03/31/2008 - 21:32Sarcastic Gamer has the right idea. The video is hilarious. Shame on EA. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
no worse then what's already being done.
Virago — Tue, 04/01/2008 - 01:39Although I don't like the fact that they are making gamers pay for content that's on the disk, you have to ask yourself, just how much content is actually back during development only to be released later for a fee? Most games would have you think that the content was develop after a release and therefore warrants being paid for. Let's face it, its one of the downsides of owning a console, these developers are making us pay for stuff they've always given pc communities free of charge!
The only different here with EA is how blatant they are in advertising the fact these weapons already exist. They could have simply hidden them from view and released them months down the road and nobody would have known the difference and we'd instead be thanking them for the new content.
some food for thought!
only solution... down with ALL costly unlockables.
